o and incase you're wondering why you had to use 30kg mass, you didnt have to, the tension is the same for both masses :p
so using other values:
i.e.
for the 50kg person, he is going to move down yeah, therefore you use the negative acceleration of the whole system (remember vectors - therefore direction), thus , and his acceleration by gravity is also , as it'd be for the 30kg mass.
