Should you pick your major in first year or just pick more general subjects in first year then pick your major/s when you have a better idea of what you want to do?

I've also been hearing that it's very hard to get a job with a BSc degree alone and often you would have to do more studying in postgrad to increase your chances of long-term employment.

Also, when I say "best" major I mean one that will lead to higher pay and job security.
So, what does everyone here think?

Also what if you get tired of studying after your BSc degree...
how hard exactly is it to get a job straight after a BSc degree and what can you do to increase your chances?

~thanks

Do something you enjoy. Trust me/us/everyone, you don't want to study something you don't enjoy

Then take a variety of subjects and keep your prospects open. My BSc consists of Maths, Chem, Physics and Astronomy. I really hated Physics in VCE, but I'm getting along with it well in Uni. We never know

You can get jobs with a BSc alone, but most science type jobs will require at least honours.

If you want a major that offers the most transferable skill set, I would suggest statistics. But as DisaFear said, the best thing to do is the one you enjoy the most.
