For a structure in translational equilibrium you're trying to satisfy three things;

The sum of forces in the x-direction is equal to 0

The sum of forces in the y-direction is equal to 0

The sum of moments (or torque, whatever you call it in VCE) is equal to 0

Remember that when you take moments, you want to do so about a point which will eliminate some unknowns, most likely a reaction force.

If you provide me with an example I'll write out a detailed solution on how to go about doing it :)
