Hi guys,

i hate to annoy any of you as i know you're all probably busy studying for your own exams! I just seem to have trouble understanding Apical Dominance? WHAT IS IT EXACTLY? And how can i define it, say i was to receive a question on it in the exam? I know it involves Auxins that inhibit the growth of Lateral Buds, but i'm sure theres more to it than that? If someone could please give me an exact meaning and possibly go more in depth?

THAT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!  :) :) :) :) :)

Plus, good luck to all you guys for tomorrow!  :D

to my understand this is how it works
the tip at the top of the plant is called the apical tip, the plant hormone auxin is produced here which inhibits the lateral buds from growing. once this tip is removed the lateral buds then grow grow and this is the apical dominance where the lateral buds grow out from the stem.

not 100% tho :)

Thank you so much! I recall my teacher telling me that as the auxin moves down the stem, it loses concentration and hence it results in less inhibition of lateral buds. So in reality the lower down the stem we go the more the lateral growth occurs. I hope that makes sense! It seems to link to what you're saying! Leave it to me to realise about this the night before exams! JEEZ

Also, i was wondering whether the type of flowering plants (long day plants, short day plants) and all that were part of the syllabus? I don't recall learning those nor are they in my text book, yet i happened to run into them in the Neap Book?! Ahh this is killing me!
