hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows the difference between an extraneous variable and a confounding variable? they seem very similar, so I'm a bit confused! cheers

There are two types of extraneous variable:
- Confounding (essentially acts as another IV, renders experiment useless)
- Non-confounding (effects experiment and control in some way, may or may not cause failure of experiment, e.g. temperature of room at time of experiment)

Hope that helps!

Confounding variable basically means the extraneous variables took effect.

Extraneous = Possibly effecting
Confounding = Has effected
