It seems quite easy, but id like to know how everyone else would go about it. :)

The Topic is ...'Evaluate the success of a specific Asia-Pacific state in achieving its national interests.

shazzthepimpingturtle:
Which global actor are you focusing on?
or rather which one did you study?

sabrin:
China.

Basicallly I know I have to mention how china has been successful in the global politics in achieving its national interest through its extensive power.i.e military, political etc..But because the topic says 'evaluate' my teacher said to include the disadvantage or more like the unsuccess china has achieved for that particular interest.Just wondering how do you put two and two together,if you get what i mean :)..sorry i wasn't clear before..

nkultra42:
ok, so I had a similar topic on China, and what I did was this:

First I thought about 2-3 different national interests, for example, territorial integrity and economic development.
Then I discussed how China has been successful in achieving the interest and then contrasted this with how they haven't been so successful. For instance, first I would talk about how China has been able to keep a relatively tight grip over Tibet and Taiwan. But then, to contrast to this, I wrote about how sometimes China's actions have actually acted as a detriment in some aspects, by alienating Taiwan and Tibet, eg the 2008 Tibetan riots.

Another option is to focus on the powers themselves, and link that to a national interest, so millitary powerh has been used in Tibet with relative success, but it has a negative impact on the peaceful rise goal.

As long as you acknowledge differing views then you should be fine. :)
