I was just wondering what are all the trig. identities that we need to know for integration by substitution and in general.

The more common ones for integration by substitution are
$\begin{alignedat}{1}\sin^{2}(x)+\cos^{2}(x) & =1<br />\\ 1+\tan^{2}(x) & =\sec^{2}(x)<br />\\ \sin^{2}(x) & =\frac{1-\cos(2x)}{2}<br />\\ \cos^{2}(x) & =\frac{1+\cos(2x)}{2}<br />\end{alignedat}$

one more: 1+ (cotx)^2 = (cosecx)^2
