Condensation polymerisation

In condenstation polymerisation, does each monomer have 2 functional groups? eg. two alchohol groups reacting with two carboxyic groups

Condensation polymerisation could occur with different types of functional groups.

Eg, a carboxy reacting with a alcohol to form a ester group + water.

Or in the case of Starch, glucose is the monomer, the 2 hydroxy functional groups react to form an ether linkage + water.

yes the monomer would need two functional groups to form a polymer but they don't have to be the same functional group. eg each amino acid (monomer) has an amino and a carboxy functional group to form the peptide links to make the protein (polymer)
