do i need a's for my school report to do muep or umep?

(1/1)

swampman:
Currently I'm not doing as well at school, but I want to take umep jap or muep jap next year. Is the selection really that strict on school reports?

Cosec:
Hey mate, unfortunately yeah they are really strict, and I suggest that you consider whether you would really be able to cope, since it is essentially a 1st year Uni course and the workload would be huge. I myself was in a similar boat to you lst year, but with UMEP maths and decent grades to get in, but thought about it and instead opted for a year 12 subject, simply due to the workload. Of course if you feel that you will be able to kill it then have a chat with your teacher about it and I think if you can get their permission than you might be able to sneak in with slightly lower grades. Good-luck !  :)

iirene:
You can get in with slightly below par grades.. but the decision comes down to the teacher that will be taking your course.
But yea, it DOES put you at a big disadvantage during selection time.

And, at least for UMEP, to apply you need the endorsement of your co-ordinator and principal as well. So if you're not doing too well at school, they might not be willing to provide that during the application process.

MUEP japanese was no so strict... I think

I had a rollercoaster of marks of GMA and I didn't put much effort into year 11 English - but I remember hearing that you needed a B+ average overall

I was quite nervous about getting into MUEP since I didn't do a 3/4 in year 11 so I participated in other co-curricular things to show off my keenness for Japanese such as entering the Japan Foundation Speech contest and studying Japanese like crazy (I learnt kanji outside the prescribed ones for VCE and studied all the grammar patterns needed in Japanese 3/4 so I would not fall behind in MUEP)

My Japanese teacher was impressed and I won the year 11 prize for Japanese which I attached along with my speech contest participation certificate to the MUEP form

also, not sure if you're doing Japanese 3/4 in year 11, but if you haven't you will need to sit a writing and speaking test with one of the coordinators and im not sure how strict they were since I didn't see some people in my MUEP class who I saw at the test (or maybe they declined the offer to do MUEP for some reason)

tldr - need a B+ average overall, suggest attaching anything to the MUEP form to show that you're keen to study Japanese
