Burning Out

I don't know why I feel like this.

On Tuesday I came to band rehearsal with a pit in my stomach . We're playing in the school musical in about two weeks so there's been a fair amount of pressure to nail everything and be ready for the show. I must have had a blank look on my face because the band director asked me if I was okay, and I said (in blatant denial) 'yeah I'm fine", played about ten notes and then... I don't know...just lost my grip.  I had to walk out. One of the teachers talked it through with me and then told me I should have a glass of water and go for a walk.

That moment behind the tennis courts when I spilled out my guts; that was when I knew I was losing control.

I swear I'm going mad.  Shouldn't I be able to, you know, cope with life in general?

I've lost all the motivation to do work, and this scares me. I mean, I'm sitting here in front of a freaking computer screen.

I've been pretty busy. Tim Costello came earlier this week, and I was my school's student rep. In June I went on a trip to central Australia; I'm part of an interfaith dialogue, I'm in the choir, the musical is approaching; not to mention band's festival, etcetera, etcetera. Get the picture? . And yet I feel like I'm not even enjoying these things anymore.

Freaking hell, I don't even know what to do except brace myself for these next few weeks.

I can definitely relate to what you're saying. I sat an English SAC today, and generally I'm sweating and can hardly write because my hand is shaking, but today I couldn't have cared less. Last year I dropped out of a subject because I had absolute zero motivation, and the one thing I can say is probably the one thing you don't want to do; run, and do less study. Go out with friends etc. Work smarter, organise tighter if you need to, but you need to be physiologically healthy as well as mentally. Run right before practise maybe. Imo, coping with life means balance with life. Get everything equal, be healthy, run, socialise, have time for you as well as time for your school responsibilities. I truly hope you can sort everything out.

I know you all feel! i think its at the stage now when i wish the exams would come faster so i wont have to feel unmotivated anymore. when exams roll round i defs study but now im hardly doing any study blah! im so over it seriously. Its funny though because i do theatre studies and its the only subject i really enjoy, so the process of preparing for the monologue has been great. I procastinate studying for other subjects by doing theatre haha. love theatre <3 and midyear results on monday! ahh i swear to god if i get lower than a A for psych i will be so upset, considering the amount of study i put in :(  F school, im done!

Nah, it's ok.
Thanks for your kind words.
It's interesting that you mentioned running - I used to run a fair bit, back when I'd had the time. Plus, we have X Country tomorrow.

You ALWAYS have the time! I know sometimes you can't justify things like running when you could be studying, or sometimes it feels like there aren't enough hours in a day. But wake up 20 minutes earlier and just run. You'll ending having more energy than you would have had if you had slept extra.

Edit; Katy, I've pm'd you =]

It doesn't get any better in uni guys. The only way to overcome burning out is to find a strategy that works for you.

 Hmm.  I never thought so.
A strategy, then: Get into XC team, turn up for 7.30 trainings?

Interesting, I've heard some people saying things like this, and others saying that it becomes a lot less stressful in uni. I've certainly no desire to work as hard as this next year though. (At least in the first year.)
