^^I honestly don't get why people do that.

I'm exactly like you.. I just don't see the point of it. It's not our cup of tea you may say.. i guess people have different personalities

I'd much prefer it to spend the time with family or a few close friends.

I dunno if anyone else is having/has had the same problem, but having curry parents sometimes really really really sucks.
It's not like I'm asking to go to Gold Coast, it's Inverloch for god's sake!!!

Grgrgrrrr.

Apreciate your parents and everything they do for you. You don't know what you have until it's gone.

its not the fact we dont appreciate what they do for us...

its the fact they sometimes dont let us live life how we wish to live it.
And here is when i tell you to go watch 3 idiots. :p

but the point is not that we take them for granted; i love my parents and what they do for me. but sometimes i get really pissed off that im not treated like an adult or not trusted.  i think id class it as overprotection.

In the end, irrespective of how "crazy" schoolies gets with "drugs/sex/alcohol", it's your personal responsibility to make the decisions which affect your life. I've witnessed the "oppressed" kids finally get a chance to be free of their parents wrath and be able to drink/have sex/party as much as they want, and let me tell you it almost always ends up with someone passed out and a night of general regret, if not worse. I think the parent outlook of "don't let our kids do anything" within the context of our culture is just a time bomb waiting to go off and probably worse for the kids in the long run then if they were allowed to make their own mistakes and learn from them.

Seems to be the wrong idea of schoolies going around.

Schoolies =/= drugs sex and alcohol on the Gold Coast

It's just the week after exams. If you go to an apartment in the Melbourne CBD for all I care that's schoolies. I had pretty tight 'curry' parents at the end of year 12 too, but heading to Lorne/Rye wasn't something I marketed to them as 'schoolies', it was just an outting with friends in that week.

If you go and ask them 'can I go to schoolies', the first thing that comes to mind for them is violence and drugs in Queensland, not you out with your friends in Inverloch.

Hahah taiga that wouldn't work either. My parents would not let me go anywhere at the end of year 12 if it didn't involve me coming back home that night. Haha.

So even going and staying at an apartment block in the Melbourne CBD is a no no.

100%. That's why I think the balance atm is skewed in the wrong direction

There's Indian parents, then there's Tamil parents  :P To be honest, they aren't too strict, at least mine aren't.

I personally don't want to go to schoolies because of the unnecessary risks involved and I don't fancy drinking alcohol either so by word of mouth, that's 3/4 of the appeal of schoolies gone anyway. :/

I'm a car freak myself so provided I do well, I'll get a nice Mazda RX-8 and I'm planning to do an epic road trip with my friends!! Even though petrol will be a pain, it'll still be way cheaper than most schoolies trips anyway.

I'm one of the few who personally don't see partying hard as a way to wind down haha, a nice drive down some winding roads seems to float my boat better... We should do an AN cruise one day next year!
