well i think there could be physical factors involved,


with climate change its predicted to have its greatest effect at the poles, this is due to the tilt of the earth, the annual temperature variation is larger in the poles, and in particular since the arctic has more land than the antarctic and southern ocean the artic has much larger yearly temperature variations, with climate change, and the internal regulation mechanisms such as the sea ice albedo feedback, these temperature changes will be amplified at the poles.
