So how does biofeedback actually work to help one cope with stress?

Biofeedback is a technique that enables the individual to receive information about the state of a bodily process and with appropriate training, they learn to control a related physiological response using thought processes.

Because of this, we can learn to consciously control some of the responses associated with stress such as heart rate, altogether, helping reduce the stress response (and the long term impacts)
