Further AND Methods 3&4 in the same year - Can it be done?

So I'm looking to potentially do Further next year, for a number of reasons...

I absolutely love statistical maths involving numbers. It just interests me. I've always had an eye for figures and data and it complements the Financial direction I want to go in at uni. So I thought Further would be a good fit. However, at school I've always done the stream of maths that is geared towards completing Methods in Y12.

So; with regards to Further, is it doable with Methods in the same year? I know it's not like Spesh where they overlap to some extent, for all intents and purposes they're pretty much two different animals, yeah? Would I burn out and get sick of maths? I'm looking for experiences here from people, to kind of guide me in the right direction.

Cheers.

There are a high amount of people in my year level taking both. The Further students that take Methods are generally the ones in the upper ranks; if you're good enough to do Methods you can excel in Further. I don't think you'll burn out if you love the numbers etc. Taking both sounds like a pretty good decision from where you're sitting provided you didn't slack Further.
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

I'm doing both.  By the sounds of it you should go for it, but I'd talk to your teachers since they know you better.

Some modules are more relevant to Methods than others (ie 2,3,6), but the subject should be doable even if you don't do these. The dux of Specialist Maths at my school last year did all 3 maths, so doing Further+Methods in one year is definitely possible.

I did methods last year and am doing specialist and further this year. My experience is that if you are comfortable and confident with mathematics then you will have no issues with doing both in the same year as further will be a breeze. I think that you will find the work load in further to be far less than that of methods and therefore allows you to potentially excel in both.
In regards to getting burnt out, I doubt that would happen although it really depends on how much you enjoy maths. I've done three maths now and I have always enjoyed it whether it be the easier further or the harder specialist.
It really just comes down to how much you enjoy maths and how well you think you can do in further compared to any other subject that you might take, as you obviously want to get the best score going for a 96-97.

For sure! Generally, these with methods experience are better at Further.

One of my friends who does Methods 1&2 and General Maths Standard gets usually gets C+ in Methods and A+ in General if that helps.

I'm doing both and it's quite easy to balance between the two for me. After doing methods, you'll realise the little amount of workload you receive in Further, and you could easily finish an entire module within 2 days. If you enjoy maths, completing practice exams is also a lot better and quicker, and I guess getting the motivation to do them is a lot easier too (i'd honestly rather do 5 maths exams in a day than do 1 english exam)
Also, don't neglect your further studies which is what most students tend to do since its 'easy'. Considering the amount of students that do further every year, it's quite hard to get in the top 8% or so.

Heaps of people do Spesh and Methods in the same year (including me), 2 maths in one year isn't a problem. I have friends that do Spesh+Further, and Methods+Further as well, so it ain't a big deal.

Thats simply due to the fact that you are not allowed to do spesh without doing methods prior or at the same time.

Partially* due to the fact, I imagine people who do Spesh would be good at Maths and do Methods anyway.

But what's your point lol?
