Could someone give me a hand with this question,

Question 18:
Gian's puppy has a habit of jumping on her. According to the dog trainer, the best way to stop the behaviour is for Gian to fold her arms over her chest and turn away each tim the puppy is about to jump.
Which of the following best describes the strategy suggested by the dog trainer?
A. Stimulus Discrimination
B. Stimulus Generalisation
C. Negative Reinforcement
D. Punishment

The answers say it is D but I thought it would have been C as she is turning away and removing attention.

Any thoughts?

No it would be D because Gian's behaviour is DECREASING the chances of the dogs response occurring again.

i also interpreted it as positive punishment, as in Gian is giving the dog a negative stimulus (inattention) which will decrease the likelihood of the behavior of jumping on Gian from occurring again in future

The 'negative' is synonymous with 'subtraction'. Think of it like subtraction reinforcement because you're subtracting something bad, therefore reinforcing the behaviour.

Exactly. The trainer is not trying to REINFORCE the dogs annoying behaviour. Good luck with trials. Xxx
