Major depression: Psychological contributing factors

Hey all,
If, just say, we're asked to discuss the psychological contributing factors of depression, do we have to talk about everything?
So with learned helplessness, we need to mention the attribution theory as well (which includes the 3 causal judgements) right?? That's not too confusing

But for stress, do we mention all three models or just stress exposure because it causes depression, while stress generation doesn't contribute to depression.. or do we mention the reciprocal? OR, just all three? Arrgh I'm confused  :-\

I also would like to know this. If we have to mention all of these, it is very time-consuming.

I would be quite surprised if you needed to learn the different stress models/causal judgements (after all, there's only 5 or 6 marks allocated to major depression/gambling/schizophrenia on the exam!).

That being said, it might be worth reading over and being familiar with them, just in case. I would say, though, that a general overview of learned helplessness and stress (and how they can contribute to the development of depression) is all you'll really need to know. :)

What about biological factors, how in depth do we have to know them, because, for example, this question asks about genes?  :o

Ah yes, is that from Checkpoints? My friend came across a question similar to that also. I'd be inclined to say that you don't need to know about the genes in that much detail. :)
