VCAA 2002 Exam 1
Question 4a :)

please check it out and tell me if i get the full 3 marks just for setting up integral and then answer...
you may ask why it matters? well maybe cause of time and the integral involves inverse sin and a substituion and stuff like that which is sometimes time consuming...

LOL VCAA Methods 2002 Exam 1 Q4a isn't even an integral question...just saying :P

Mate, how long does it take for you to write down the antiderivative, if it takes you any longer than 15 seconds to copy the antiderivative from your CAS, I will eat the money I have in my wallet :P
Look at it this way, what would make you have more regrets?
1) Writing it down and wasting 15 seconds of your life you can't get back OR
2) Not writing it down and potentially losing a mark

Bloody hell. What about those people who don't know that they have to write down the antiderivative even if it is not a required intermediate step and not expressly asked for just to get full marks? That's bullshit.

Yeah, that's why I always advocate being clear and meticulous, like, it's a good principle to stick by - you can't ever be too clear

But I get where you're coming from as well

I agree with Paul here, showing an extra step to cover all bases won't kill you.

In general, there are 0 marks allocated for arithmetic (except in show that questions). So you should includ every step that is not arithmetic, that means I generally go:

Write the integral
Integrate it and put it in square brackets (CAS)
Substitute the values in
Write answer (CAS)

It can be done by hand. Since it's worth 3 marks, just do it by hand I guess.

Then again that exam is kind of outdated.

thanks paul it helped a lot :) i guess adding the integral step shouldn't hurt:)

I'll be doing that from now on..
