Question on Employment Cycle

Hey guys,

Hope everyone is studying hard and ready to tear up the exam in not too long. In the meantime, I was wondering whether anyone could help me with my question which I have been receiving conflicting information about. Does it go like this: Job Analysis, then within the job analysis is the job description and job specification, and then Job Design?? Or is job description and job specification an element of Job Design, instead of Job Analysis??

Thanks in advance guys ;D

Hi mate, it may cary textbook to textbook however i have learnt it as the following

they conduct a job analysis to see if a position is there and then what is needed
 so within it includes
a job description - what the job entails

Just to further clarify for you:

Job Design: The grouping together of tasks and requirements for a particular job.

Job Analysis: Systematic process of gathering information about the job. Methods used: interview present job holder, observation and supervisory reports.

Job Description: A written description of a job's title, duties and responsibilities.

Job Specification: A detailed list of personal skills and characteristics required to be successful in performing the job. E.g. personal qualities, licences, university degrees.

I believe you are referring to the establishment phase, which the HR manager typically caters to.
Effective recruitment involves the creation of a job analysis and job description to highlight the core areas that employees should specialise (should be up to date and intent on achieving organisational objectives). Organisations will advertise the job internally, or externally (eg - word of mouth, job recruitment agencies, newspapers). The candidates are then shortlisted and eventually interviewed in order to make their qualities/attributes apparent to the organsation.
