On the exam is it possible that the topics we are given are both to do with construction techniques? So, like 'How does this novel convey this view' etc. Or do they have to give us topics that are of 2 different styles?

Not sure.
Either way, no matter what prompt I do for Cosi, I try to talk about the ideas that are conveyed through the text, even if it is a prompt on characters. Shows understanding.

Official, politically correct, nice answer: They don't HAVE TO give you topics that are of two different styles, they often do, but there's no rule saying that they have to.

Straight and mean answer: They're VCAA and they can be nice, but they can also screw you over.

So advice is to be prepared for a wide range of topics.

Yes - the three main types of topics they may give you are thematic, character-based and structural topic (which can include a quote as well)
