Why does the examiner report have answers to decimal places?

I've noticed that sometimes they give their answers to decimal places when the question doesn't mention anything about it.
e.g VCAA 2009 Exam 2, SA Q1 b) and 3 a)

Would it be fine to leave it as exact or decimal approximation in cases where they don't mention anything about how to express the answer?

Thanks

I'm fairly sure they prefer exact where they don't specify

I believe the instructions on exams say answers must be exact unless otherwise specified :)
