Which one of the following describes the use of Benzodiazepine in treating phobia anxiety disorders?
a. It has an agonistic effect, thus stimulating activity at the site of the postsynaptic neuron.
b. It has an antagonistic effect, thus stimulating activity at the site of the postsynaptic neuron.
c. It has an agonistic effect thus inhibiting activity at the site of the postsynaptic neuron.
d. It has an antagonistic effect, thus inhibiting activity at the site of the postsynaptic neuron.

I did D, but the answer is A. I thought Benzodiazepine mimics GABA which inhibits activity at the site of the postsynaptic neuron so if it stimulates doesn't that just make anxiety levels worse?

It STIMULATES GABA which INHIBITS firing of the anxiety messages. Does that clear it right up or?

Yup, the receptor sites are stimulated and therefore they receive more GABA.
