Text Response - Going off topc

Hello, it seems that I always go off topic in my text responses. It is my weakest section and my teacher said I did this in the sac and we had a trial exam which an examiner marked and he said the same. Could I fix this by simply linking each paragraph to the topic? I hadn't done so in the exam and therefore perhaps in the sac either, thank you.

My teacher said that the easiest way to make sure your arguments are linked to the topic is to use the key words of the topic in your topic sentences.

Exactly how off topic are you going?

What i try to do it just have a strong topic sentence that clearly shows what my paragraph is about then just try to keep thinking and linking back to that as well as the prompt.

I find it helps by giving quick glances to the topic now and then, especially as I write my body paragraphs. After providing evidence from the text (i.e. quotes), I always link it back to my arguments by explaining how the evidence supports or doesn't support it. Your concluding sentence, that is the last two sentences of every body paragraph is probably the most important. When you get there, make sure that it draws back to the prompt.
