can we use a calculator during reading time?

i have always thought that we could because my teachers said that we just can't pick up our pen/pencil.
but my friend told me today that we can't even use a calculator during the reading time? can we though?  :-\

Look I'm like 99% sure you can't. But I think you can use your textbook, if that's any consolation. The VCAA dude today told me in my Spec exam no Calc but Text in reading time.

You can't use your calculator but you can look through your bound notes.

EDIT: Source, VCE Navigator.  Page 5 "Calculators must not be used during reading time".  Page 6 "Bound references may be consulted during reading time and througout the examination".

If you use your calculator in reading time you can essential solve a whole module worth of questions, so it's not allowed :) damn the system haha

haha thats what i've been doing all along......now i have to re do all my practice exams (-.-)

Some questions can be solved without calculator use anyway. 15 minutes reading time can allow you to solve several questions just from reading it. Personally, leaving a slight mark on a correct answer during reading time with my finger does tend to save me an extra 15-25 minutes worth of time by the end of the exam, seeing as I have eliminated up to 10 questions on a practice exam with this method.
