Do I get penalised for this?

Some symbols we use in Turkish are different than English for example I sometimes express decimal numbers as 2,8 not 2.8.and also in product I always use  a dot because I don't want to mix it with x in algebra. I've recently read something and found out this difference. Nobody told me..so in the exam, say, I'm showing my working out and multiplying 2 decimal numbers 2.8 and 5.12 ..should I write (2,8).(5,12) or 2.8x5.12 It's my habit so I can't really change now..Is this ok in the exam?

Well, you really should use the notation we use here to avoid confusion.

Personally I used 2 x 3 for multiplication (for example) and used 2.3 for decimal points (again, for example).

Best bet would be to do it however you'd like first (maybe keep the Aussie notation in mind) and if you have time at the end, change everything.

I always use dots for multiplication examiners are more than familiar with this notation and as long as your showing the correct conceptual knowledge with adequate notation, full marks will be awarded. (In my mid-year I used dots and scientific notation for any decimals and I dropped 1 mark due to missing a question *derp*)

However, using comma's may be pushing it. Im sure it's not too difficult to shorten that comma to a full stop

Using dots for multiplication is fine, but yeah, using commas for a decimal place is pushing it.
