Music Performance Aural & Theory Exam - Tips?

(1/2) > >>

DylanBurrowes:
Any tips or advice for the 2012 end of year Music Performance Aural & Theory Exam?

Yendall:

* Listen extremely carefully for the 'type' of instrument in the melodic dictation.
* If you've done the 2011 exam, know that rhythmic dictation can be quite difficult so have an extensive knowledge of time signatures.
* Be able to write in bass and treble clef (obvious)
* Be able to identify modes from written scales
* Know your intervals aurally and theoretically!
* Do not waste any time! Timing is crucial for this exam
* Know a range of interpretation techniques for the song analysis

No problem, best of luck!

In the music analyses, don't forget to write about the EFFECT of what is happening. Don't just state stuff that happens. When you do state a particular moment in a piece - make sure that it is a very specific example that shows a particular interpretive decision etc.  ;)
Good luck!
