Does anyone have definitions of production elements that they'd be willing to share? I've struggled to find unequivocal ones for Narrative.

Do we need to be able to define story elements? Thanks in advance! I'll post my definitions for Social Values later.

Don't have any definitions, but an easy way to remember the production elements is CAMELS
C - Camerawork
A - Acting
M - Mise-en-scene
E - Editing
L - Lighting
S - Sound

and I believe that you should be able to define story elements as well.

Oh okay!
I'll copy a few from the textbook down:

Genre: The type of text; for example science fiction, horror, Western, romantic comedy. An audience uses its knowledge of genre codes and conventions to read a text. A method of grouping texts according to the production and story elements they have in common, including storylines, setting, character, types, subjects and themes.

Mise en scene: Refers to the way in which shots, setting, costume and lighting are constructed and may be analysed to determine meaning.

Point of view: A story element referring to the point from which the narrative is presented. May refer to a character, the director or the audience.

Reception Context: The way in which the time, place and emotional state of the audience affects the meaning of a film for that narrative.

Storyline: All the events in a narrative - those shown and those inferred but not necessarily shown.

I'm trying to find which ones are really relevant.. I'll have a look and see if I can find any better ones. :)

Edit: What do people use as their definition of editing?

Camera -

Acting - the use of facial expression, body movements and other gestures in order to enhance the depiction of a character in a narrative

Mise en scene - the way in which elements of a visual shot such as costume, props, setting, lighting and camera work are used to construct meaning

Editing - the alteration of visual and audio elements in order to change their presentation to an audience and how the narrative is thus perceived

Lighting - The way in which a shot/scene is illuminated, naturally or expressively, to construct meaning

Sound - various audio elements which combine to reinforce the visual components of a narrative. They can be enhanced and altered in order to suit the intended meaning.

That's the best I could come up with on my own. Struggling for camera and lighting...

How about 'The way in which a shot/scene is illuminated, naturally or expressively, to construct meaning'?
