I was just wondering if the 13,500 from the melbourne access scholarship can be used to pay tuition fees?

I can either do biomed or sci next year but im having difficulty choosing between the two. Could anyone help?

In some ways, Biomed is a bit of a "white elephant" - one can do virtually the same course through the Bachelor of Science, with more flexibility - you don't have to worry about compulsory physics and stats subjects if you don't want to in Science. In addition, the single Biomed chemistry subject doesn't cover some of the GAMSAT chemistry content, while in Science this content is spread out over 2 subjects (Chemistry 1 and 2).

And also, if you decide against a career in medicine Science offers alternative study options. I know people who did Science just incase they changed their mind about their prospective career.

Plus in Science, you get to have Charles Sevigny as a 2nd year physiology lecturer  :)

Sorry if this is slightly off topic - but did Melbourne Uni send you an email about the Access scholarship? I was wondering because I applied but I haven't heard anything yet.

Oh okay! I was just wondering since I applied and got an ATAR of 99.85 so I was hoping a scholarship would come. :D Hopefully an email will come soon then!

Biomed apparently much more unified as a cohort.
Roughly around 400 Biomed students per year level as opposed to 1900 Science..

Additionally, the lectures for Biomed are all together with the rest of the cohort, all in one stream, whereas Science's are all over the place. For mine, this means you will become a whole lot closer with your colleagues in Biomed.

Given the ATAR cut-off, Biomed students are likely to be much more similar to each other and hence you may again make better connections with others in your course. Clearly the variety of people doing Science could be an advantage, but you get a chance to experience mixing with different sorts of people in the Biomed degree also during your breadth subjects.
