Transfer from another uni to UoM

What if I don't get the atar required for the Bachelor of Science at UoM, having said that I get into a Bach of science at another uni, will I be able to transfer mid year with a lower clearly in atar? If not, will I be able to transfer after first year after meeting pre-reqs such as 75% average?

Also, what if I don't meet the pre-reqs in VCE for eg 25 in Methods? Is is still possible to be considered? Can I take up a maths subject in first year uni to meet that pre req?

For the pre-requisites, you will need to print out the subject guide of the vce equivelant uni subject at your uniand send it to melb uni to review whether they will accept it as a substitute or the vce subject.

As for scores required to transfer; this yrs "competitive" average for transfer was 75 - however this will fluctuate very yr depending on demand. Having said that, the fluctuations are generally very small so a 75 should usually put you into consideration.

For mid yr transfers after doing a semester in 1st yr - melb will weight your atar and your marks achieved at uni (roughly 50/50). Therefore, if you achieved a high atar (ie. just below the cut off) than your uni marks will need to be around 75. A higher atar than that would then mean a lower required uni average. And therefore consequently, a lower atar will require a higher average. As for how this weightage is calculated: nobody really knows.

My advice is to study hard, get a good grade and apply mid yr. if you dont get it, you can always try again after 1st yr (no harm in repeated efforts).

What if i don't meet the vce pre-reqs, is it possible to take up a subject in uni and achieve good grades in replacement of the vce pre-requisite? For example, I didn't meet minimum requirements for chemistry, and then I take up chemistry as a subject at another uni, can that be considered instead of the vce subject after 1 year at another uni?

You can do that with maths methods so it's probably the case, you might even have to do just one semester of that subject.

I don't think so, I think it is for one semester.
Can someone confirm this though?

I don't think so
But ATAR is definitely considered for mid-year transfers

Take my case for example

Me and a friend were both slightly under the in for BSc at UoM
We both did BSc at Monash

His ATAR was a tad above mine

I averaged 85 in first sem at uni, he averaged 73
He got in, I did not
So be careful :)

So I guess I'll have better chance after a years study at another university?

Come now, your ATAR isn't even out yet, be optimistic :)
And maybe when the year is done, you won't even want to transfer!

I know that I want to stay at Monash for now, for my undergrad. Even though it takes me 80 mins per trip, as opposed to 30 mins to UoM

Best bet is to transfer at mid year, OR take a 6 month gap and then apply for mid year intake without doing a semester of uni. I THINK you would be considered as a non year 12 applicant and they would consider your ATAR. But that's really up to you, it would be preferable to get into the tertiary system and then move around once you're in it.

Nah you cant take a 6 month break to take advantage of the mature age loophole. Melb takes into account your last "full year" of study. So they will still take your vce score into account.
