has anyone studied it or is studying it ?

Do you have any good notes, or well written essays that you would be able to share?

If I were in your position I would read all of your texts during the holidays, or at the very least the ones you are going to be studying in first semester.

Whoever told you not to gave you bad advice. Read the books!

i am going to now but does anyone have any resources

(we were told not to read shakespeare because some people don't understand it or get confused or don't like so when we read in class it makes more senses)

Personally I mostly relied on in class discussions.

However; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Notes-William-Shakespeares-Henry-Advanced/dp/0582431603/ref=dp_ob_title_bk

This is invaluable. Highly recommend you buy it. It's probably the only Study Guide on the market worth having for Henry :).

York Notes Advanced for $15 is extremely beneficial.

Your text will have some good, basic discussion as well.  If you want gain a perspective on the characters, i would watch some or all of the film versions out there.  Whilst they will make you fall asleep, they give a great insight into the attitude and personality of the characters-something which is difficult to see initially when reading Shakespeare.
