MMI Interview for Guaranteed Pathway to Med

Hi,

So there's two options for when to do the MMI Interview to get into the guaranteed pathway to med at Melbourne- 18th Dec 2012 or 3 years later after you finish Biomed...What's everyone's thoughts on the times? Would it be better to do it this year (get it over and done with, get to know whether you've passed earlier?) or 3 years later (more experience, time, more mature etc)

If it was me, I'm not waiting around for 3 years not knowing if I passed an interview. Do it before you start any studies I reckon.

If I was ever lucky enough to receive an ATAR of 99.90+ I don't think I'd do my interview straight away, because you might change your mind. I think it's best to do it in three years time with that extra experience and wisdom, as well as conviction that medicine is really what you want to do.

There is no reason not to do it now tbh. It commits you to nothing and you find out whether or not you have a place if you want it. If you fail, tbh, you shouldn't be going into medicine anyway since the interview for the Scholars is pass/fail

the main reason I can think of to support doing the interview later on, that would be that you may have a better chance of passing the interview at a later time due to increased maturity/awareness/experience

does anyone know if you can do the interview this year and then also at the later time?

Yeah, I'm not completing a 3 year non-professional bachelor's and finding out, on the off change, that my guaranteed spot is not mine anymore because I didn't pass the interview.

If you don't have the basic communication skills now, do you really think you're going to acquire them over the next 3 years?

I'd say do it now and find out whether you have the place. If you happen to fail then you can make preparations to reapply (through the non-guaranteed pathway) via the normal route if you still wish to do med at the end of your undergrad.

id like to think that people who are capable of 99.90 would be experts at communication...

seeing they are top of the state for their english studies....

Being good at essays and being socially competent enough to keep a conversation going are two different things

but one could argue that if they have the capacity to do so well academically, they would/should have some sort of level of expertise in being able to socialise......

I dunno, I had a lot of awkward students at my school scoring well at VCE.

haha ... this is far from the case of my school there are no awkward people who do well because from a public school if you are awkward / shy you are incompetent and left behind while the rest of the state's kids kick our asses... me and my friend worked our asses off .... had to seek tutors / lectures / learning sources from online and elsewhere (such as here) ....
our teachers aimed at the "average" student of our cohort ( average 26 study score ) and as a result we did not cover all of the study design...
I learned alot of concepts for the first and only time at tsfx master classes (lol) <--- lots of awkwardbrah's there which I suspect come from "good" schools saw quite a few from MHS / Scotch kids etc there...

also.. alot of naturally intelligent kids got carried away by the culture of my school... (partying every weekend, drugs, alcohol etc...)
I'm not sure what it's like in a good school? but this is my experience in a rank ~450 school...anyone care to share their experiences at their school?
