i missed crucial parts of my year 10 end of year assesments, as well as orientation for vce, and my school being academic has given out so much hw and teachers have told other students that im going to be behind since i missed everything, and now im starting to stress, should i worry or will it be okay?

What the chances of?? (Didn't complete the question) but I am certain you are referring to how your chances are affected on scoring a high ATAR or doing well for the rest of year or really well in Physch . Whatever it may be, orientation is pretty much a short introduction into your subjects (so what the subject is about, what topics will be learnt, how the subject and therefore class for that subject will run etc..) so you wouldn't be that affected to achieve well throughout the year. However for summer holidays it does effect quite alot, as you miss out on the opportunity as in English to read your novels at least twice in which helps you have a understanding what the book is about, annotate certain quotes, form opinions on the book, to become ahead of the state in English. Since you're in year 11 judging by your sig then it won't affect your ATAR at all so don't freak and stress too much. For the rest of your subjects you won't miss out on too much besides on completing holiday homework but to start reading the first area of study just to know what you will be learning once you begin school, become aware of the topics covered in all subjects via the study design. Even though you may miss out on holidays there is till alot of time to do well even though you may think otherwise, if you are willing to work hard, stay committed and being determined throughout the year, putting all that time in the effort of studying hard, completing homework and catching to the rest of the state and there's is no limit to how you well you can do, the possibilities are endless and It really comes do to how bad you want. I would like to say good luck with your studies in 2013 and I hope soon you will recover

Well I like said for physch, you would be missing out on finishing holiday hw (given on what you have told me it seems like you haven't done so but please correct me If I am wrong), doing questions for area of study 1 (not really necessary but there are people would do this), reading over Area Of Study 1 topics in your textbook this would put you to a good start to do well as you develop a understanding for what is to be covered in class therefore making you aware of what's being as you have seen the information for the second time and create notes for area of study 1 (so irrelevant but It felt necessary) . So will it affect you getting a 45+? Well in my opinion, No not really because you haven't started your SAC's or even begun to study material in class. Haha you're definitely won't be viewed by your parents as a "derp" given what you want to achieve. I know you must be stressed out ( I couldn't imagine it) but please remain calm and focused because stressing out won't help with getting a 45+ so just relax and try make the most out of the holidays as much as you possibly can and believe in yourself and you should be in good chance for a 45+

A lot of people get 45+ (there is no probability someone can give you though) raw after doing no work in the holidays. If I were you, I'd try to focus on recovery. From your story, it sounds like a very serious situation and I think having a great recovery is far more important than holiday work.

Best of luck!

inspectorfletcher,

Going by what you have described, VCE should not concern you AT ALL!  All you need to worry about is getting well.
You can start thinking about VCE after you get well. You can re-assess your position and take appropriate action.

You can potentially get a 45+ even if you start caring about a subject in June or something. But orientation or the "highway to hell" won't really affect your score at all. Its just teachers thinking they know how to study and tell you how they would study, but just don't listen to them and find your own way.

Yeah focus on recovering :) - putting energy into your work and delaying your recovery and hence delaying the time you can study like a person in a 'normal' situation does you no good. You can without a doubt get a 45+ even if you spend the rest of your holidays in the hospital. Stranger things have happened.
And Florian has a point as well, albeit one that I don't recommend lol. My girlfriend attended one of the supposed 'worst' schools in the south-east last year, missed quite a lot of school and didn't apply herself etc etc and ended up with a 47 study score. It was honestly the most confusing thing that has ever happened in my life. I thought it was her ATAR.
And yeah, you're in Year 11! Not to undermine the situation, but the direct influence this sickness has on your ATAR is extremely minimal. You'll do really well in Psych, make a thread/message me any time if you ever find yourself confused. Don't listen to the naysayers.
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

Fortunately, I feel like Psych is a subject that you could still do well in regardless of these holidays.
It's the sort of subject where you don't need hours and hours of preparation work during these holidays, realistically it's more that sort of thing where you just need to cover everything over and remember it. There are few really tricky concepts, more so it's just a study design that you need to become familiar with.

Beyond Psych, into 2014, you'll have plenty of time to recover and prepare for your other subjects.
Not all is looking negative

I was on exchange during the year before Year 11, missed a month of headstart, all of summer holidays, didn't get sent any holiday homework etc, and I did perfectly fine. Don't stress :)

I can't imagine what you're going through, but I can definitely say that you should push aside all your academic concerns for the time being and just try your best to recover.
If it helps, during year 11 orientation I wasn't even enrolled in psych 3/4.. I was doing bio 3/4 orientation. I even bought my bio books and thought that there was no way in hell I'd even consider doing psych! Even though my sister had all the books and resources needed for psych, I sold them all to a friend doing psych 3/4.. Then a few weeks into the holidays, I just woke up one day and suddenly developed a HUGE interest to psych 3/4. Even then, I called my school up and they said it was ok, told me the hw I had to do, etc.. But I didn't have a book or anything! By the time I got the book (which I needed for practically ALL my homework: Research methods), I was too busy packing to go overseas. I took my stuff with me overseas, but I didn't touch anything haha because I just couldn't be stuffed and wanted a proper holiday! I legit started and finished my homework in the ~5 days I had between coming back to Melbourne and the first day of school, ~3 days of which were taken up by the jetlag, homesickness and visits by family friends that  basically gave me an excuse to put off my homework for a little longer!

Honestly, I only began to put in the hard yards a week before my first SAC, which I somehow pulled off a 93% in (and even more surprisingly, it was the highest in the class haha!).

Hahah I don't know if that story was useful to you, but the moral is that holidays don't really matter for a subject like psych.. neither does orientation. If anything, they make up the tiniest little percentage, but they still don't really help. Oh, and let me also add, people underestimated my ability too! So many mocked me for making such a last minute change, implying that I'd regret it in the end because I had no time to prepare! Just ignore those people, they should only make you more determined to do well! The most important thing is preparation for sacs and making sure you secure a rank within the top 5.

And, you've still got plenty of time for that. Even pushing that aside, you don't even have midyears so even if you dismiss the first term or so of this year, you still have a lot of time to work on doing well in psych! Also, try and set an aim ASAP.. At the start of the year, I told myself that I just wanted a 30+, which increased to a 35+ and a few weeks before the unit 4 exam, became a 40+.. Never did I aim for 45+, but I know if I had that aim from the beginning of the year I could've scored myself the extra 3 study score points needed for a perfect score! That's not to say I'm regretful of my mark, but if you want to aim high, do so from now! And I see you've already set yourself that aim, which already puts you ahead of all those nasties who may be thinking otherwise! The fact that you're even on here asking this already improves your chances of getting 45+ :D

If you need any help you have all of us here to help you too! Feel free to PM me if you ever need any help or support and I'll be sure to try and do what I can :)
