GPA for JD

I am planning to study Arts and unimelb next year. My intention is to gain entrance into the JD program after the completion of my BA. According to the unimelb i must maintain a GPA of atleast 75. I personally find it hard to put in context the 75 figure. Can some one please tell me what a GPA of 75 requires? Would i need to ace everything or what? please help.

Melb uni operates on a 7.0 GPA system, whereby the highest you can get is 7 (all H1). What you heard is probably an average (or weighted average) of 75 marks, or a (h2a) which equates to a GPA of around 6.0 out of 7.0.

Edit: forget what I said here

JinXi, Melbourne only uses the 7.0 GPA system for Medicine entry. Otherwise, it's just straight averages (out of 100 obviously). If you want to get in the JD program on a CSP place you will want to be getting above a 75 average. If you got 99.00+, and you get 75+ GPA, you will get a guaranteed full-fee place (~$100,000) so you don't have to take the LSAT or put in a personal statement. If you got 99.90+, you are guaranteed a CSP place (~30,000 if I'm not mistaken).

Apparently, a ~78 GPA and a ~160 on the LSAT will net you a CSP place at the Melbourne Law School. Its getting quite a bit more competitive as the years go on (Melbourne is now ranked #8 in the world for law!) meaning that the cut-off might go up for a CSP place. If you get below the cut-off for a CSP place (which would probably happen with a 75 GPA), you will be offered a full-fee place. What you do with that offer is up to you.

TLDR: Don't aim for the minimum. Strive to achieve the best you can so that you can guarantee you CSP place at MLS' JD program.

Ah sorry for the confusion caused. I always thought that Melb uni uses a 7.0 GPA system for all it's courses. Thanks for clearing that up :)

Melb uni doesnt have an official gpa system - they actually employ the wam su
Ystem similar to unsw.

As for the scores needed for a csp spot in law; what the above poster has said is right on the mark. However, bear in mind that a 78 at uni is very jard to maintain. To put it in context
; the effort req to keep a 78 average in a b.comm (and this would be similar im a b.arts) you would need to put in the same amount of effort as one needed to achieve a 95+ atar. Also, 78 is borderline (and a lsat of 160 is incredibly high) so my advice is to achieve much better than that if you want to feel safe about your application.
