I have dean's scholars program as a preference, but not as my 1st preference...i'd probably only consider it if they are offering a scholarship with it. Will they contact me regarding some merit-based science scholarship? I've heard from the engineering department, but not sure how the science department handles their side of things?

Just to add on to this post, is the Dean's Scholars program, in general, worth it? Do the mentors enrich your undergrad degree? And are the events that they promise really helpful? Does it add some added benefit for employment (would employers like it?)?

I'm tossing up Dean's Scholars Commerce or Bachelor of Commerce @ Melb AND transport is the only issue for me...

Melb Uni is only 30 mins and Monash is 1.5 h; so I want to know if the added benefits of Dean's Scholars Program (e.g. mentors and events) outweighs the amount of time I have to spend on the train...

I know a few doing Bcomm dean's scholars, um it's essentially the same as Bcomm but with a few benefits, I know that you can skip some first year compulsory units and stuff and flexible course structure (like there are some preq units which you don't have to do). Other than that, it's essentially the same... at the end of the day, you get what you put in.

I have some questions if anybody would be kind enough to share their thoughts.

a) Is it possible to still apply for a position in the Bachelor of Arts - Dean's Scholars program? If so, is this done through VTAC just like all other courses?
b) Does this always come with a scholarship?
c) Is entry based entirely on ATAR?
d) Is it possible to combine it with other degrees? For example, Bachelor of Arts/Education - Dean's Scholars.

Thanks in advance!

d) I think you can combine it with Commerce, but afaik not with Education but you should contact them

thanks truetears, just one more question though that i would appreciate any Monash students answering directly; is the added benefits worth travelling 1.5 hrs to and from Monash as opposed to just 50 minutes to and from melbourne???

Hi ggxoxo, thanks very much for the reply. I received an email today which suggested that I needed to have a standard Bachelor of Arts as my first preference and apply for the Dean's Scholars Program separately. However, I believe this to be false as I was of the opinion that I would just put 'Arts Scholars program (Monash University, Deans Scholars, F/T)' (course code 28991) as my first preference. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Thanks.  :)
