Haha! I am interested to know how are you going to link Bernard Tomic with DoAs? That he is actually not that good, but his father is over-inflating his abilities? Or the temper of his father is like Willy :P

Actually sort of neither of those, to be honest. I tend to use it to comment on how the Australian public were also disillusioned about Tomic's true potential to be the "next Rodger Federer". Due to how the media portrayed Tomic, Tomic became too complacent, much in the same way that Biff becomes ignorant of the need to work hard to become a great football player. So both Biff and Tomic's complacency was the catalyst in altering what was eventually proved to be fact.

I'm getting around a 7 for all my pieces for english and I'm kind of scared for the actual exam. Ahh, remember the days I used to dream about getting a good score..

Anyway, if anyone has some time, I'd really appreciate it if somebody could have a look and give me some *constructive* feedback that will help me to improve. Thanks a billion !

Am I doing whose reality wrong? I honestly have no idea what I'm talking about after I finish each sentence? Pls help me superior peers

‘We can evade reality but we cannot avoid the consequences of doing so.’

Human beings naturally predisposition themselves into thinking that our identity has succumb to the only existing reality, but this belief does not negate alternate realities. This thought process of self-importance can be witnessed to be inherent in all people, choosing to escape an objective reality within our own subjective reality, to hide within comforting illusion. But in doing this, the realities that we choose not to recognise are still as real as our own reality. To highlight this point, imagine you were born and raised in a box. Everything that you know about your world exists within your box, and everything foreign ceases to even be known within your reality. But the reality outside of this box is as thriving and real as inside the box. Human beings have developed this way of thinking throughout our evolution, displayed by our ignorance in choosing to repress alternative realities that still exist. The stars up in the sky were once naively thought to be reflection of our own hearts, denying the existence of alternate realities and planets that could contain life. This illusory thinking can be further explored in Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. Four prisoners were said to have been chained up and faced towards a wall for the entirety of their lives. Behind them there was a flickering fire that casted off shadows of the people who passed by on the raised walkway between the fire and the prisoners. The reality of the prisoners was merely a cave wall with a series of reflections, and any other reality would have been unimaginable to these men. But this does not make the reality non-existent, exemplified by when one of the prisoners was freed to endeavor upon an inconceivable journey in an unfamiliar reality. Therefore, we are able to effectively evade alternative worlds and realities holding the belief we are within a singular reality, but this does not make the repressed realities any less real.

Sorry to randomly post this but I absolutely love this intro from last year's text response example for Wuthering Heights. It's not perfect but the expression is so beautiful in parts.

Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights presents a world of polarizing characters subject to the forces of social class and a passionate love that transcends the world in which they exist. Heathcliff’s actions and motivations in the morally ambiguous world constructed by Bronte portrays him not as a monster, but as a Byronic hero whose tyrannical actions are seen as the result of an all-consuming love that has been bastardized by the influence of the social mechanisms of his day. Thus Heathcliff’s status as an outsider and his love of Catherine empower him to commit such horrendous actions, though he finally achieves peace in his end. This is indicative of his status of a Byronic hero, a concept that the people of Bronte’s day would have known and understood, as his dark, unbridled passion punctuates his every action.

LOL since this is the English thread now, may I ask that are we allowed to use a pencil for the note-form summary?

I know it says in the instructions that we should use black/blue pen for writing, but I remember once my teacher saying we can use pencil for the note-form summary.

It is a bit embarrassing to not know this till now, but please help.

What's a note form summary? Is it EAL related?

By note form summary, do you mean planning before you write the essay? If that's the case, then you are allowed to use pencil because this page is not scanned nor marked by examiners so it does not matter what you use to write.

So apparently the apocalypse decided to come... Just in time to utterly decimate my carefully constructed sleep schedule to have me at my peak for English. Is the universe trying to send us VCE kids a sign?
