How to get a 43+ raw in chemistry? any tips?

I really want to get a high score in chemistry, but i dont really know how to go about doing it. Could somebody help me out? Unlike the biology board, there arent too many detailed sets of advice for chemistry, and i would really appreciate the help (as im sure others will also). Thanks in advance!

Don't know anything about Chemistry, but if I were you, AN's Chem Study Guide would be my first port of call, hoping that Thushan has revealed his secrets.

It's okay to make silly mistakes. Actually, it's okay to make any kind of mistake - big or small, it's something that will happen and you can always learn from them.

"How long" really isn't a good question, it'd vary for everyone. Don't go all out study, you can leave time for free time. I think it's better to think of it in terms of what you need to get done.

The study guide question has been asked a lot recently, have a look in other threads. The answer is pretty much always Thushan's study guide trumps all :P (which, from the limited set of chemistry study guides that I've seen, I'd agree with).

For the other questions just picking off some recent discussions that are similar-ish to what you're asking (there's a lot more than the ones that I'm listing too, have a read of them and you'll probably find answers to your questions):

I'm in the same boat as you man. I'm worried that I'll neglect my other maths subjects for just Chemistry.

In an attempt to get you somewhere with the question.

I'm doing all the question in my Heinemann book, and after every chapter, I summarise everything into a page on Onenote (or word). I also plan to work one or two lessons ahead in my class, that way, I'll know what my teacher is talking about and it also gives me a chance to either clear small doubts or deepen my understanding. O

f course silly mistakes are okay :) We're only just starting, I was making a heap of stupid mistakes but I've noticed that they do gradually disappear. It may also be your concentration at that time too. Especially in this heat, I was making dumb errors so I just stopped. With regards to study guides, I've heard absolutely nothing but great stuff about Thushan's study guide. I preordered mine and he also gave me a preview of the guide during the meet on Thursday. I'd definitely say buy it!

I think many will agree that you should not base your study on "time" but rather content instead. Like I said before, I'm planning to work ahead by around 2 classes, for the holidays I plan to finish chapter 5 absolute tops..

To past students... Am I going about this wrong? Thanks :) I've talked to a couple of past students about this though.

1. Don't completely rote-learn in Unit 3; understand the concepts. This is particularly important for Stoichiometry, and Instrumental Analysis. You only get good at this kinda stuff by doing lots of questions, and by making mistakes. If you don't know how the hell you got something wrong (which happens a lot of the time in Chemistry), ask the teacher or ask AN.

When you get to Unit 4, the course becomes more summary-based but it's still crucial that you maintain a thorough understanding of processes such as equilibrium, redox, etc.

2. Yes, make the silly mistakes now rather than at the end of the year.

3. NEAP, Lisachem and Checkpoints are what I used. But get the ATARNotes Study Guide too.

4. Probably an hour or two of Chemistry study a day? In the end, it's not how much you study, but what you do in that time. I'd always do some Chemistry study every 2-3 days, and most of that time would be spent doing questions.

do lots of practice exams ! the sort of questions they can ask you are really quite limited, so doing lots of exams ensures that you're exposed to (hopefully) all/most sorts of question types.

From seniors i have heard:

- do lots of questions
- ask lots of questions( thats what the chem board is for ! yay! )
- get the guides ( ie.Neap, thushan's amazing guide, lisachem)
- and love chem <3

You learn from your mistakes ! :) It's okay to make mistakes! :) Nobody's perfect( omg i have miley cyrus in my head now!)
and curry bro , have confidence. you shall do fine! :)

Perfect your understanding of the concepts (mostly Unit 3, cos you would be already familiar with the concepts in Unit 4).
And practice, practice and PRACTICE.
For a score above 43+, it becomes a competition of how less mistakes you can make.
