UMEP Pyschology or Deakin Psychology

(1/1)

teletubbies_95:
I'm in a dilemma at the moment ! I got offers for University Extension Program at both Uni Melb and Deakin Uni . I have to choose between them, but i dont know which to accept. I'm thinking : Uni Melb has
-more prestige , maybe better curriculum and lecturers( not sure about that)

but the cons are that
- I have to travel there ( I go to MacRob so its okay , but i would come home later than normal) ,

In Deakin ,
pros
- you can do the course at home and dont have to travel ,
Cons:
-  I have no idea what to expect cause they just opened the extension program this year!

I need some advice of what to choose!! Thanks heaps !:)

Well here's what I think if that was me:

-if I was responsible for studying the deakin psych, I don't know how I'd handle it because it's all self directed seeing you can study at home. Like going to Melbourne would probably keep me more motivated.
-look at courses you'd consider doing, especially if there is one at either institution. It could be easier to get credit if you're in the same uni, but I'm not sure how all this extension stuff works.
-do a comparison chart between the two units, and look at what most appeals to you, regardless of prestige. It is most important that you find your extension engaging and worthwhile, so if there are topics that interest you at say, Melbourne, then that could draw you to accept that.

Lastly, congratulations on both offers!

Planck's constant:
Unimelb gives you a credit for your UMEP subjects, if you end up going there.
I expect that Monash would do the same for MUEP studies and Deakin for their extension studies.
What I don't know is whether Universities will give credits for Extension Studies from other Universities.
If this has a bearing on your decision, perhaps you should make enquiries.

I went to both open days for MUEP and UMEP and they said that gaining credit at one university can actually be counted if you decide to attend the other, provided that their courses are fairly similar. Between MUEP and UMEP, I assume it'll be quite possible!
