French Proficient 1 (ATS2065)

Hahah, I'm such a newbie at this stuff. Sorry!

So I'm looking to do this course, but I'm getting really confused about the contact hours. According to the Handbook it says there is:
Quote
One 1-hour culture lecture per week
One 1-hour culture tutorial per week
One 2-hour language workshop per week
One 1-hour language tutorial per week
But then in MUTTS it has a language lecture (instead of a tute), a screening thing and various tutes (and, like it says, a cultural lecture and a language workshop ).
And, the only language lecture clashes with the philosophy one I'm desperate to do, so is this a mistake or...? I dunno. I'm really confused. What am I supposed to go to?

But I am looking to do this as a diplang, not a major/minor, so does that mean I can just...not do it this year and pick it up next year?

Welcome to French, which probably has the highest contact hours out of all the languages >_<

The screening (from memory) is a once- or twice-off thing - you'll probably watch a French movie for the cultural component, which you'll spend a few weeks discussing and analysing. You don't even have to go to that, you could borrow the movie from the library and watch it yourself at home if you prefer.

Ok just realised you said MUTTS - go to Allocate instead and see what it says there. If you take a screenshot I might be able to help you more

Is this helpful? They're attached.
haha I'm sorry, just ridiculously confused about this whole thing. High School is way easier.

It's the Lecture 2 that's screwing me over atm. I'm guessing it's not possible to take French Proficient 2 without 1?

Okay, so the Allocate system is a bit confusing but you'll get the hang of it :)

SCC1 just stands for Specialised Culture Component 1, so it looks like your 2 hour culture lecture is split into two 1 hour sessions. So both Lecture01/01 and Lecture01/02 are compulsory. (As a side note, Chris Watkin is lovely!)

Lecture02/01 is also compulsory, I'm guessing that's your grammar lecture, and there's only one time for it so you'll have to go to that one! The French department is pretty strict about attendance requirements so if you have clashes you might have to sacrifice your other classes.

I have no idea whether screening happens every week, when I did it we only saw like 2 movies, once at the start of semester and once in like week 6, you may have to email the coordinator - especially if that time clashes with another class you might just have to borrow the film yourself and watch it at home.

Tutorial - there's 5 times for it there, you only need to pick one since they are all "SCC1 tutorial".

Workshop - there's 6 times for it there, you also only need to pick one (from memory this is your translation/grammar class).

Also, your philosophy lecture might be recorded if you're worried about missing it. Have a look for it here: http://mulo.monash.edu/fac-arts.html - I know it lists last year's recordings, but it's generally a good indication of whether the same subjects will be recorded again this year :)
