Whats studio arts like?
(1/1)
spectroscopy:
might swap economics for studio arts, at least for unit 2, but im curious as to what the subject is like, ie; what happens in a standard lesson, i have horrific memories of art in year 10 because of watching b grade documentaries about van gogh and learning about things rather than being said "hey go draw/paint", i dont know, if someone could give me a basic rundown of the course id much appreciate it !
Lolly:
I'll let someone else talk about the Studio course structure ( Since I'm just doing normal art) but at least in my experience, class time in art is really chilled out and fun. You get heaps of time to work on your folio and finished artworks. Sometimes our teacher gives us a debrief/analysis homework but most of the time is ours. We usually have the radio on while we're working. That said, there are definite deadlines and you have to work hard ( this can be stressful), but most of the time art can be quite therapeutic :) Occasionally we get artists in residence and we join in with the Studio kids to hear them talk about their artworks, particular techniques they use and their inspiration.
Actually, the best part about art is the excursions to the NGV and other art galleries, They almost always involve taking copious notes and doing homework afterwards but it's really fun to get out into the city and see artworks, and then buy lunch somewhere afterwards. And then wander. And sometimes get lost. :P
