Diplang in arts/law

So this year I'm doing arts/law I was all prepared to apply for a diplang, and then when I went to the law faculty to get their permission, I was told that they only give permission after 1st year, and only if the student has a credit average or something like that.
So that kinda sucked.
But the thing I'm mainly wondering is if I take the french units now, can I get them to count towards the diplang (...and perhaps the first year sequence required in arts/law...) later? Because I don't want to put it off for a year because I am 100% sure I will forget a lot.

Thank you! And sorry I'm so clueless about everything :/

Yes you can.

Do the French units now through your Arts/Law, then when you apply for the Dip next year make sure you also apply for advance credit on those French units. The French units will double count as both part of your Arts/Law and part of your Dip.

Also... just an after thought... but if you're already doing Arts/Law, why are you interested in doing a Diploma on top of that? What are you planning on majoring in?

Right, thanks!
And well, there are a few reasons I'd like to do the diploma. Firstly, I really really want to major in Philosophy and minor in politics and do some linguistics electives...but if I want to do french as well (which I do) then I can't do all that.
And also, it adds an extra year to my degree and I really don't ever want to go out into the real world and get a real job, so this is kinda worthwhile procrastination.  ::)
