If you're a naturally mathematically-inclined individual, I'd say spesh is easier to do well in. Simply because your more reliant on mathematically understanding rather than mindless rote-learning/repetition
If your maths style does fit under that repetitive/drill-like category, then perhaps it may be a little harder, but that's not to say its out of the question. Far from it 
Comes down to a bit of luck too, I lost a few marks on my exams cause of careless errors in Spesh and cause the exam was just so damn easy in my year (2011), I got 44, I think I lost 4.5 marks in total or something like that, Thushan lost 2 marks and he got a 47. You could easily lose 2 marks and get a 49 in Methods (I did in 2011) , or possibly even get a 50 in a year with hard exams.
So I think in the end it depends on what year you do it in, obviously those who are good with concepts would prefer harder exams and those who are meticulous would prefer easy exams.
