Hey i was just wondering whether each school that offers specialist teaches different topics, like in further with the modules, because as i read look at the specialist board, a lot of you guys are talking about all this weird as stuff (some of which i covered last year in year 11)
at the moment my school is keeping it extremely easy compared to most of the questions here (we have barely started) and so we're doing like radians and all that, just the basics, however, i'm getting worried cause i obviously know spec is extremely difficult, so are yoyu guys just getting ahead or is my school just being relaxed...
I dunno if any of that made sense, cheers any way guys haha

I believe there are no modules (like Further Maths) in Specialist.

I still feel fairly similar to how you feel at the moment, in the way that I see many questions here that I don't think I've even touched on in class (this is for pretty much all subjects). To give yourself some piece of mind, find out how the previous cohort went with their Specialist results. If they were fairly good, then you shouldn't have much to worry about and you'll be brought up to speed in no time. :)

Unlike Futher, Spesh covers the same content at all schools, spesh doesn't have modules that you pick. Some people have started early and are already pushing through a few chapters. Some of it you may have covered last year, depending on how your school runs GMA (different schools may run this differently, i.e. some schools do it as '1 2 spesh', while mine used it to set us up for methods and further, neglecting the spesh chatpers).

The study design has what you need to know in it, so for spesh go to page 208 -> http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/vce/mathematics/mathsstd.pdf

Main topics are
- Functions, Graphs and  Relations (graphing inverse trig functions, also things like y=x+1/x, asymptotes become more important in this regard e.t.c)
- Algebra (including complex numbers and all that jazz)
- Calculus (harder than methods calc, goes into inverse trig derivatives, u substitutions and such)
- Vectors (basic proofs, some vector calculus using i j k form e.t.c)
- Mechanics (things like blocks on inclined planes and ropes with tension, pulleys e.t.c)
2012-2016: Aerospace Engineering/Science (Double Major in Applied Mathematics - Monash Uni)
TI-NSPIRE GUIDES: METH, SPESH

Co-Authored AtarNotes' Maths Study Guides

I'm starting to get too old for this... May be on here or irc from time to time.

Just don't expect results that are too high. To give you an example, the highest study score in my school Specialist cohort last year was 38 and most the cohort fell between 25-35. You should only be concerned if the results were <~25.

Given that you got 44 for further, you're at least looking for 30 in spesh...this is my estimation
2012 ATAR:88.90

2013-2015 Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering and Science (dropped in 2015)
2015-2017 Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)

I disagree pretty strongly with that. Even if you look at the statistics and find that your school has previously not gone so well in a particular subject, that shouldn't really dishearten you who is doing the subject in 2013.

And I'll emphasise the 'at least' here. I do think it's best to aim as high as you can, or at least give it your best shot.
