UMAT: Get ATARNotes prep system and use it.

GAT: You know those cartoon characters that wind up their arm in a full circles super fast before they punch out another character and it looks really comical? Wind up your arm like that. Real fast. Zoomzoomzoom. Spinspinspinspinspin. Then punch yourself in the face.

to prepare for the GAT, it is strongly advised that you complete at least 5 previous papers, found here: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Pages/vce/exams/gat/gat.aspx
2012-2013: VCE, Melbourne High School

2014-2016: Bachelor of Commerce, Actuarial Studies, University of Melbourne

1) UMAT - get onto ATARNotes "Section Zero UMAT Prep" - great value and great help. On top of that, might be worth getting tuition from someone who's done well on the UMAT in the past or, alternatively, grab some material off those who have bought it in the past.

2) GAT - it is advised to complete all previous GATs available from the VCAA website. Very old GATs are also worth doing and should be available from your school. They say that employers later on look at the GAT to determine your intellectual ability. In many ways it is more important than VCE itself. Seriously though, the GAT, are you kidding me?

Just in case OP was confused; YOU DON'T NEED TO PREPARE FOR THE GAT

The GAT doesn't impact upon your ATAR in any way, shape or form unless you end up getting a derived examination score for a subject(s). Even in that case, there are far more important things taken into consideration (i.e. your SACs). Pretty much, the GAT is there as a way for VCAA to test that their examinations have been accurately assessed.

Tiny note: At Monash, the GAT is considered (but not a deciding factor) in middle-band entry to a course if your just miss the ATAR cut-off.

tl;dr: Don't worry about the GAT, do worry about UMAT (but practice with ATARnotes's 'Section Zero')

u must be new here if u think GAT is important :P GAT is a pointless exam and time could be better spent elsewhere. UMAT is important and u should definitely work on it. dont make the mistake like me by putting it off until 1 week before the exam...
