I am doing business but i have no real idea on what i want to major in.
I'm deciding between
Banking & Finance, Economics, Marketing and maybe Accounting

can anyone give me advice/experiences ? also what jobs are likely to graduates get of these majors?
can you do a double major at monash? what are the benefits if any?
I haven't done maths methods and although its not a prerequisite is the complex maths knowledge required for any of these majors

THANKS IN ADVANCE (:

You can double major- I'm planning on doing eco/finance :)

People have told me finance/accounting is a really strong combination; both complement each other as well. However, eco/finance is also a good one to do (apparently, there's just not that many eco jobs but, from research I've gathered, your company can always just train you in accounting [e.g. grad dip in accounting] anyway if you need accounting background)

I don't kno if finance is the same as banking/finance though; I wouldn't choose marketing though imo (there's just an unfair stigma attached to it- but if you think you'll enjoy it and get good grades in it then don't let anyone stop you from doing it!)

Hope I helped a bit! :)

I'm doing banking and finance/accounting this year, nice to see another business student!  :)

Im not 100% sure but I assume all business students, regardless of majors, do the same 6 core units during first year - you might find this will help you in dedicing as you progress through the units (e.g. getting a feel for marketing, economics, accounting etc.) and come end of this year your decision may be easier. I may be wrong though  :-[

I am doing business but i have no real idea on what i want to major in.

That's why for Commerce/Business degrees, you have to complete a range of compulsory first-year units. Those units give you an introduction into the different areas of business. Don't base your major on which one is "likely to get you a job" etc. because really, if you maintained strong grades, you could get a job in any field. The benefit of doing a double major is that it opens up greater employment opportunities, whereas a single major may limit you to a certain field. Banking & Finance, in terms of coursework, is a mixture of theory and calculations and it explores the different types of markets (i.e. share, bond, foreign exchange and global capital markets etc.). Economics deals with supply and demand, elasticity, monopoly and monopolistic competition etc. Marketing relates to segmentation (targeting/positioning), marketing mix (all theory). Don't rule out anything yet. You don't have to decide what you're going to major in now. You'll have a better idea once you do the core units.
