Was one on an exam I did, but I think it shouldn't be?

If it was on an exam and there's no other functional groups to write then put it down :)

In our last SAC it asked to circle the functional groups of salicylic acid and the benzene ring was not included in the answers.

WOW

"Benzene derivatives" are functional groups? Does this mean you circle the whole molecule or what?
