Pythagoras Question- Please Help!

Please help with the question below. I'm completely lost as to how to do it. :/

You can make a right angled triangle at the edge of the top disk. That will leave x^2+30^2 = 32^2, and you can solve for x. The radius of the base is hence 20+x, and then you need to double that to find the diameter.

Sorry, why is the radius 20+x and not 10+x , which is them doubled to get a diameter of 20+ 2x?

wouldnt the diametre of the base be 20 + 2root(62)

You are correct; pretty sure appianway just made a typo/had a brain fade :P
