Prompt

On monday i have a sac on Identity & Belonging.
I have been given the prompt and it is- "Cultural barriers can prevent people from really accepting eachother".

I have been stuggling for ideas and was wondering how how to tackle this prompt.
My teacher has advised me to use examples from the media, but not sure what really relate.

As with any prompt, when stuck for ideas it's best to ask questions about the prompt.
What are cultural barriers, are there different types of cultural barriers?
Ask the 'why' questions - these should translate into possible answers/reasons that can be used as ideas for paragraphs.
One example idea: "Language is a cultural element which acts as a barrier when people cannot understand each other, hindering acceptance."
Examples from the media can also help you to think of ideas, (e.g. what provokes racial disturbances against Indian taxi drivers?) or can be used as supporting evidence.

cultural barriers

different religion beliefs which forms our views and values,
thus our morals may be different or in conflict with another persons and prevent us from getting along
having stereoptype and a false belief about another culture...
past conflicts and wars between two groups that has provoked fear, hatred and distrust among groups

i just love identity and belonging BUT OUR SCHOOL IS DOING CONFLICT.. :(

I finish off the sac tomorrow; thanks for all your imput.
I wrote about how it's an intrinsic motivation to belong and we often change to be accepted. Also said we look for someone similar so we do not have to change.
I used same-sex marrige as my media reference.
I was wondering if you had any tips on a written explanation?

your points are strong...

writen explanation

i dont know much about it.

but i think you include
the purpose of your essay, eg type of essay, your audience
what points you are trying to get across,

eg. one  you could make your audience
refugees and people who oppose them, depending on your essay
and talk about how you try to clarify the issues between this two groups
and how it might make them feel or change their attitudes..

good luck

i have my essay tomorrow as well.. :S
