Expensive text books?

Okay so i added up how much it will cost to buy all the necessary textbooks i need for this semester and it adds up to around $530


is this normal? Can i sell them second hand?  this sucks

That seems about right. I'd recommend buying second hand if they're the right edition. Buying second hand will reduce the total price and when you come to sell them you'll lose less money than if you're selling them if you bought them new. I bought the majority of mine second hand and saved close to $150.

I think it would be since you only need most books for one semester. Also for some books they'll ask you to buy a new edition which is exactly the same as the old edition but with some title rehash. Would be better to torrent or buy the old edition in that case.

Are you getting these prices from the official bookstore? Try searching online on places like eBay, BookDepository, Booko, etc. Many books are $30-40 cheaper online (not all though)
Second-hand books also save a lot.

Buy them from Encompass Books. Brand new and $10 cheaper than Coop

My opinion is probably going to be unpopular but I would get the physical books despite the cost: I have been using some of my first year textbooks for GAMSAT related things recently and I'm in third year!  Hence why I never sold them :3  Obviously if you can get them cheaper online/somewhere other than co-op do that.  I just spent a bucketload getting mine since Encompass didn't have them and I had to sign up for membership at the co-op )':

Try textbookexchange.com (or something sim) for 2nd hand books.

Bookdepository is great for normal books, not sure about textbooks but it seems like people recommend it!

Also, you have plenty of time to buy text books, haha.
