Does anyone know the rules for synthetic division when the x term in the divisor has a coefficient?
For example how would I use synthetic division for:

Thanks  :)

Thanks, but by using synthetic division is it:

-4    6    2   0   Keep: -1/2
       2   -4   1
-4    8   -2   1

Then I divide the bottom row by 2 (the coefficient of x in the divisor) except for the remainder: 1

Giving -2x^2+4x-1/2x+1

I think that's the way to do it, but I'm not sure?
