Pretty self-explanatory - can anyone recommend a YOW study guide that can actually augment your writing and interpretations, rather than just give a sweeping overview? Thanks.

I've already bought Neap, but on your recommendation I'll probably get Insight as well. :) Btw, I'm wondering to what extent using the ideas of a study guide is conducive to blitzing the text essay? You would still need some personal interpretation etc, right?

A unique and personal interpretation goes a long way.......However, study guides can help you understand the text and its implications if that's something you find you can't understand. I personally strongly advocate a deep and personal interpretation of the text(s) you study.  :)

You're right, kezzab--the best study guide is the one you compile yourself.

The commercial ones should be used as a 'check-you-haven't-forgotten-anything'!

Thank you for agreeing! Personalized and deep understandings of the text go a long way; I feel that tackling the text with your own mindset allows one to offer a complex, sophisticated and brilliant essay.
I remember the chief assessor said himself: "Sophisticated and thoughtful responses to the topic and the text get rewarded" he also said that "Two students sitting next to one another both taking a different approach to the text could both achieve full marks, there is no correct answer".

Also I think exploring the text by yourself just allows you feel rewarded because you'd be amazed at how much you can draw out of these texts!  :)

Thanks - yeah, I thought that would be the case. Just like with Lit, I enjoy formulating my own interpretations, so all the better!
