OMG. My SAC is on Tuesday (SAC 2B) and Im nervous! What were the case study topics given?
And any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! (:
It isn't that hard.
Know all the processes and definitions of POLC.
Know all the management styles back to front, as well as 2 adv and disadv of each management style.
Know more or less 3 management skills really well, and remember all the other management skill definitions back to front.I managed to learn all of these in one day (4 hours) , so you have plenty of time.
HINT for POLC - for the processes, make them into acronyms if you can. e.g. The planning process can be shortened down to SADIM (should know this one), whilst the organising process can be shortened down to DCA (Determine work activities, Classifying Group activities, assigning responsibility and delegating authority). Also, depending on your schools SAC, know the levels of planning too.
Hint for MANAGEMENT STYLES - You are going to have to pick out of a case study what management styles were used, by particular techniques explained. They are all quite similar, but have 1 or 2 differences in them. You are going to have to learn 3 features (I suggest learning; Communication; People Management Skills; Problem Solving and Decision Making Skills). Many advantages and disadvantages are the same, so just remember them (e.g. Clear lines of authority - remember that as that can be an advantage for Autocratic, Persuasive, Consultative. Then, you turn it around as a disadvantage, saying the lines of authority are not clear, and not sure who is accountable for actions for both participative and laissez-faire).
Hint for SKILLS - Just learn 3 back to front, which you will be able to relate to the case study regardless, but memorise the simple definitions of all the skills you've learnt, or have been given in your case study incase you are asked to define a skill like negotiation (Resolve disputes and come to a satisfactory agreement - remember the process if you want).
As for the case study: The case study is really a variation, but, many schools have had this case study this year, including myself. If I were to give you the case study, and it happened to be on the actual SAC, you'd be given a pretty hefty advantage over the other students, so you should just learn the materials and you will be fine. It isn't that hard.
As for me, it was the first SAC I studied for for a few hours, and got one mark wrong (24/25), which I'm arguing for 100% because it's right.
